5 Songs to Download ASAP
Perry’s new album isn’t all bubblegum pop. You see her growing up and dealing with her relationship problems. Some of the old Katy is still there, though, in tracks like Double Rainbow. Written by and featuring Sia, the track could have easily been an ‘80s hit.
The New Zealand born singer is a breath of fresh air in the music world with her cynical lyrics and addictive beats. Coming on to the scene so hard at just 16 has its share of problems, and that’s what the closing track of her album, A World Alone, is about. Read more.

The Great Gatsby has an Even Greater Soundtrack
The original motion picture soundtrack
is produced by Jay-Z, and features Will.i.am, Florence & the
Machine, The xx, and Mrs. Carter herself, Beyoncé.
The ensemble does well to capture the stylish, extravagant, and
cinematic vibe of Baz Luhrmann’s take on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel.
The focal point of the score is Lana Del Rey’s Young and Beautiful, sung
to nostalgia-drenched perfection accompanied by a melodious string
arrangement. The song sounds like a soliloquy by Jay Gatsby himself. Read more about.

Taylor Swift Sucks and That’s That
The consequences of having your life on constant
display include having a lot of haters.
Sometimes this hatred is deserved and though there
are genuine reasons to dislike Taylor Swift, to really dislike Taylor Swift,
sometimes the stupidest reasons win out.

Taylor Swift! We would normally try to find some intelligent reasons in this
blog, but here’s the blog description: Read more

Are We Human or Are We Kanye?
Does Kanye West need an introduction? A fashion
designer, a musical mogul, a divine rapper, and also the guy who
single-handedly keeps up with a Kim Kardashian. Kanye West is a “pop enigma.”
He may also be a deity.
Uh,
the origin of our species is obviously Kanye West. Darwin wasn’t all wrong
though, we’re clearly still evolving, and one beautiful, sunny day, and we will
be Kanye.

The 10 Bad Guys of Entertainment
The
perceptions of good and bad aren’t often as stark as they appear to be on
television. The most interesting characters come alive when they slip into grey
areas. The good guys are boring; the bad guys can’t be liked, but what about
the antiheroes?
We can’t help but love them.
[Warning: Spoilers ahead]
1. Walter White
Breaking
Bad’s Walter starts off as a victim of
circumstance, and goes on to take every wrong turn down the road. His changing
character learns to accept all immoral things, from killing in self-defense, to
poisoning children. His story is a warning about testing the waters before you
decide to step into a dangerous world; you never know what habits you need to
take on to stay afloat. Read more

5 Reasons Why Zooey Deschanel is our Spirit Animal

There aren’t many celebrities who we like as much as
Zooey Deschanel. In fact, some of us want to be just like her – and not just
physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. Actually, some of us
believe that Zooey Deschanel and her many incarnations (Summer Finn, Jess, and
Trillian) are our spirit animal. And even more of us believe that there wasn’t
enough of Zooey to go around and so God created Katy Perry and Emily Blunt.
Here is a list of reasons why we love Zooey
Deschanel and believe she is our spirit guide in this world. Read more

8 Stereotypical Smartphones

Sometimes you can tell what kind of phone a person
is likely to have just from the way they’re dressed. For example, if they’re
dressed like a homeless person, they either can’t afford a phone, or they’re
one of those hipster idiots with iPhones, not even realizing how ironic they’re
being.
This got us wondering, what if in an alternate
dimension that still had the suckfest known as high school, and it were the
smartphones that held the stereotypes instead of the people using them? Read more

Let’s Talk About Miley

Though clearly a wild child, we don’t think it’s fair to label Miley Cyrus an “idiot,” a “skank” or an “attention-grabbing whore.” While her VMA performance was culturally inappropriate, her costumes, her dances, her entire performance was nothing short of something Rihanna, Lady Gaga or even Beyonce would have done. So why exactly is this pop icon getting so much hate? Read more

Retro Music Revivalism in 2013
Lana
Del Rey can try as hard as she wants to give off that retro glam diva vibe, but
no one does retro quite like retro itself does. And with the recent resurgence
of legendary artists from yesteryear, the current crop of crooners in the world
of music are being given a run for their money.

1.
Cher
Cher is a lot of things: a pop goddess, a gay
culture icon, the queen of reinvention, and no pride parade is considered
complete without a Cher-themed drag. Speaking of reinvention, her album Closer
to the Truth is, in her own words, her most daring and different work
to date. The electric tempo of Woman’s World and Dressed to Kill
is balanced by the subdued but profound lyrics of I Walk Alone. From
bawdy disco romps to endearing pop ballads, it has something in it for
everyone, making it one of her most well-rounded albums to date. Read more

Hot Bodies and Maseratis: Work Bitch! Dissected
An in depth analysis of Britney Spears’ music video
for Work Bitch! And how it’s a critique of modern society and the prevailing
injustice in it
It’s what we’ve all been waiting
for; the song that singlehandedly made the world more productive finally has a
music video. It’s not what you expected though; there aren’t any parties in
France, there aren’t any Maseratis and no one’s really working. There are whips
though, and sharks. A lot of sharks. Here’s what we think Godney is trying to
tell us with her video for Work Bitch!
1.
Where is the Guv-a-nah?
Where are the police? Where is the governor? Isn’t
Britney supposed to be the governor? It took us some time to figure out, but
the song is clearly about the civil breakdown of society and how Britney – Hail
Godney – if given the chance, would fix everything.
2.
Where Are We Now?
It’s clear that Britney is having a midlife
meltdown. She’s in the middle of the desert with nowhere to go. All she has is
a dresser, a mirror and her own branded perfume (her ailing legacy). She’s
asking herself, is a hot body really enough? Can she live without a Bugatti? Read more
